Giants crush Redskins, 45-12

The New York Giants came into Monday night’s road game on upset alert, but there was no reason to worry.

The Giants took care of business and then some, crushing the division rival Washington Redskins, 45-12.

New York embarassed the Redskins in just about every facet of the game and didn’t let off the gas until late in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Eli Manning continues to play well and make all of the right throws. When he plays well, so do the Giants.

The win moves the Giants closer to a wild card berth, but they might have to win their last two games to get into the playoffs.

Giants Dominate Redskins on MNF, 45-12

The New York Giants unmercifully ended the Redskins season two weeks early.

With news of the firing of GM Vinny Cerrato still bringing smiles to the FedEx Field faithful, 70,000 snow-covered fans had to watch as a division rival hammered their team on national television in a 45-12 blowout.

The Giants, who started the season 5-0 and were being discussed as one of the best teams in the NFL in the early-going, found themselves in a must-win situation last night, as a win would still leave them a game behind the Cowboys and the Packers in the NFC wild card discussion.

“We felt we can play at that caliber that we were playing at the beginning of the year,” said Ahmad Bradshaw, who scored two first-half touchdowns. “We came out fired up. This was a must-win. I told everybody before we went out: ‘I need the whole team to come with us.’ And that’s how we played — together.”

“We were the team that had more at stake, obviously — and played that way,” New York coach Tom Coughlin said. “We always talk about being the team that demonstrates greater purpose. And we did.”

The Redskins, on the other hand, came into the game 4-9, and only had their jobs to play for. Considering the way the year has gone… it looked like some Redskins players wouldn’t mind being on their way out at the end of the season, likely along with head coach Jim Zorn.

Giants fall to Eagles, 45-38

The New York Giants hung tough but simply lacked the firepower to take down the Philadelphia Eagles in a 45-38 loss.

The Giants got a tremendous effort out of quarterback Eli Manning but let it all go to waste.

The defense, which has been the backbone of this team in the past, has really floundered in 2009.

The talented defensive line is unable to get any pressure on the quarterback, and the result is a lot of big pass plays are being given up.

If head coach Tom Coughlin can’t clean this up in a hurry, the Giants will be sitting home watching the postseason.

Giants roll past Cowboys, 31-24

The New York Giants picked up a critical home victory with a 31-24 win over the rival Dallas Cowboys.

After losing in embarassing fashion to the Denver Broncos 10 days earlier, the Giants knew they had to rebound in a big way.

In danger of falling out of the division and wild card hunts, the Giants knocked off the current NFC East leader.

Running back Brandon Jacobs had a 74-yard touchdown reception and Domenik Hixon had a punt return for a touchdown.

Quarterback Eli Manning continues to struggle, but the Giants found a way to overcome it.

Giants Restart Three-Team Race in NFC East by Beating Cowboys, 31-24

With one win, the NY Giants are firmly back in the race for the NFC East, which looks like it’ll go down to the wire, as usual.

The Giants started the Cowboys’ annual December swoon on Sunday with a 31-24 victory over their division rivals that brings them back within a game of the lead of the division.

RB Brandon Jacobs turned up the heat after a season-long slump, scoring a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game for the first time in his career. He took a screen pass from Eli Manning 74 yards for a score that put the Giants ahead for good.

“I was looking to get 15 to 20 yards,” Jacobs admitted. “I had no idea I would go the distance.”

“It’s the biggest play of my career,” he said. “It’s extra special against Dallas. That’s absolutely a team I can’t stand. I’ve been hating Dallas ever since I knew anything about football.”

The tide was turned with big plays – along with Jacobs’ run, punt returner Dominik Hixon broke a return for 79 yards – as the Cowboys had no answer for the Giants’ suddenly explosive offense.

“It’s a credit to the 10 guys up front,” Hixon said. “They knew we were close, and today we finally broke it.

Now, the Giants turn their attention to the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles, who come to the Meadowlands next weekend in what could be a battle for first place in the NFC East… again. With one win, the NY Giants are firmly back in the race for the NFC East, which looks like it’ll go down to the wire, as usual.

Eli Signs Cowboys Stadium, Tells ‘Boys to ‘Get Over It’

Right after notching the first victory in the history of the Cowboys’ new stadium, Giants QB Eli Manning made sure to leave his mark in a different way.

Manning signed his name alongside the score of the game and “First win in the New Stadium” in the Cowboys’ visiting locker room after the game.

“Yeah, it’s a pretty common thing,” Manning told reporters at the Giants’ practice facility. “I was asked to sign it, it wasn’t like I just went there and signed it. I didn’t have a pen on me or anything. It was all supplied.”

Cowboys players didn’t take too kindly to the gesture.

“We won’t forget that,” said linebacker Bradie James, a defensive captain for the Cowboys. “It just makes for a more intense game.”

“Things come back around in this league,” Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said.

With the Cowboys visiting the Giants this weekend, will there be more locker room antics after the game? (Especially since the Giants are tearing down the stadium at the end of this year?)

Giants no match for Broncos, 24-6

The New York Giants laid an egg in a very disappointing 24-6 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thanksgiving.

New York’s offense is really sputtering at the moment. They have injuries at the key positions and could be poised for a late season freefall.

Both running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are nicked up while quarterback Eli Manning is dealing with a sore foot.

Manning is notoriously bad when the weather turns worse, and it looks like his dropoff has started earlier than usual this season.

The Giants don’t really have any other options at quarterback, as David Carr has proven time and time again that he is not the answer.

Pierce out for season

New York Giants veteran linebacker Antonio Pierce is out for the season with a bulging disk in his neck.

He had missed the past two games after an MRI revealed the bulging disk and has now been placed on injured reserve.

He has been injury-free the past few seasons, playing in 15 games last year and all 16 contests the previous two years.

Pierce is just the latest injury for the Giants, who have really been hit by the bug this year.

The linebacker was in the spotlight much of last year for being at the scene when Plaxico Burress shot himself in the thigh.

Broncos Dominate Giants on Thanksgiving, 26-6

Forty-eight hours after holding a players-only meeting to right the ship after four straight losses, Brian Dawkins of the Denver Broncos led a resurgent defense against one of Dawkins’ old foes, as the Broncos steamrolled the Giants on Thanksgiving night, 26-6.

Perhaps the Giants had too much turkey and the tryptophan got to their brains, making them sleepwalk through the game, because the Broncos left their mark on this game from the opening minutes.

“We didn’t have any tempo and we didn’t make any plays,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “We keep talking about winning the physical battle and controlling the line of scrimmage. We thought this would be the night and it wasn’t.”

The Broncos dominated the game in every which way in the first half, outgaining the Giants 218-38 in terms of yards. Yet the Broncos kept the Giants in the game because they struggled punching the ball into the end zone when they reached the red zone.

“We can deal with being 6-5, but we need to play better football,” said Manning, who was harassed all night by the Broncos’ pass rush (the Broncos sacked him three times, twice by NFL sack leader Elvis Dumervil, who also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter).

The Giants managed two field goals in the third quarter which cut the Broncos’ lead to 10, but Kyle Orton iced the game in the fourth quarter by hitting WR Brandon Stokley with a 17-yard TD strike.

The Giants fell to 6-5 on the season, one game behind the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC’s two wild card spots, and two games behind the division-leading Dallas Cowboys.
