New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning suffered a nasty blow to the head that required 12 stitches.

Manning and running back Brandon Jacobs collided during the team’s preseason opener against the New York Jets, throwing off the play.

His helmet was partially dislodged, and Manning was then blindsided by a defender, which threw his helmet from his head.

The impact of the hit then sent Manning face first into a defender, who opened up a big gash on his forehead.

A big stream of blood rushed down Manning’s face, and he had to leave the game. There is no word on whether he suffered a concussion.

The New York Giants addressed their lack of depth at the linebacker position, signing free agent Keith Bulluck to a one-year deal on Saturday.

Bulluck had spent all of his 10-year career with the Tennessee Titans, establishing himself as a top-flight defender and leader of one of the most consistent defenses in the NFL. But after tearing his ACL just before hitting the market, Bulluck went from one of the hottest commodities to an afterthought. The Giants took advantage, signing him to an affordable $2.5 million deal. He should slide into the starting lineup following the retirement of Antonio Pierce.

He was pretty geeked up about both places,” Gary Wichard, Bulluck’s agent, said by telephone on Saturday. “Next day he calls me up and he says, ‘I’ve been dreaming about this my whole life. I’m from New York. It’s not even close.’ It was his dream to play for the Giants. He grew up in New City. Like all kids his age, LT [Lawrence Taylor] was what it is about.”

Bulluck amassed 127 tackles before suffering the knee injury in the Titans’ 14th game of the season.

Tyree played sparingly with the Baltimore Ravens last year and was limited to just special teams.

After making the miraculous Super Bowl catch, offseason surgery seemed to accelerate the rapid decline of his career.

At 30-years old and battling both knee and hamstring injuries, Tyree understands he is battling uphill to continue playing.

Despite his unheralded career, Tyree will forever be remembered for “The Catch” that propelled the Giants to a world championship.

New York was set on taking linebacker Rolando McClain, but the Oakland Raiders took him at No. 8.

Paul-Pierre reminds many of former Tennessee Titans star defensive end Jevon Kearse, who had many productive years in the league.

At the same time, Paul-Pierre is very raw and also has the look of a potential bust if he doesn’t continue to develop.

The teams typically play each other later in the preseason, but will face off this year on August 16.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the fight to see which team would get to play their regular season home opener at the stadium.

The Giants won the right on a coin flip, only for the Jets to then protest the decision to the league office.

The league came up with a viable solution, allowing the Giants to open it up Sunday and then the Jets to play at home on Monday night.

Feagles signed a one-year deal and will compete for a roster spot with an Australian rules football player.

Despite his age, Feagles has been a model of consistency, having never missed a game in his 22-year career.

He also holds most of the significant punting records, some of which can be attributed to his longevity in the game.

He has played in an NFL-record 352 consecutive games, and trails just a couple of veteran place kickers for most games played in a career.

This includes possibly making Umenyiora compete for a starting job, which obviously doesn’t sit well with such an established player.

Umenyiora so far has refused to discuss a lingering hip injury, his role with the defense or possible retirement.

He stressed that he has to answer robotically because talking openly has gotten him into trouble in the past.

The backup has seen very little time on the field during his NFL career because of Manning’s durability.

He said that it was an invaluable experience to learn behind Manning and is looking forward to a similar opportunity with his brother in New York.

The New York Giants have signed free agent safety Antrel Rolle to a five-year contract worth $37 million, the richest deal ever awarded to a player at his position.

The Giants were determined to make some upgrades in their secondary after an abysmal defensive performance last season, some of which was blamed on the coordinator.

Part of New York’s problem was the loss of safety Kenny Phillips early in the season to a knee injury. He is expected to return for the 2010 season.

Rolle said he was ecstatic over the deal, and rightfully so, and he praised the Giants for being a first-class organization that made it known he was wanted there.

The Arizona Cardinals cut Rolle to avoid paying him a bonus but with the hope of being able to re-sign him at a cheaper price after he was released. That didn’t work out too well for them.
